Here We Go

well, dom told me about this a while ago and told me he was thinking of trying it out in february after our cycle trip. it's a schedule of sleep consisting of 6 half hour naps evenly spaced throughout the day. polyphasic or Uberman sleep it's called. there are heaps of horrible blogs (ugh, that word...) about it but i guess I'll keep one too. It's eleven thirty p.m. and i had a quick starter nap before dinner then my first scheduled one at eight. after the midnight one i'll post up the first report on my humble website.

whish me luck, trav

Good luck. No, actually, good luck for two days time. Don't drink alcohol or caffine. And have something to do during the long nights (other than grappling with Ubuntu).

I've realised that I'm almost doing polyphasic anyway: 3-5 hours of core sleep, half hour naps on buses, long periods of inactivity for the rest of the day. I think it'd be fairly easy for me to go all the way into polyphasic, but I don't want to because I'd only have to swap back for weekends, social occasions and other things - thus why I'm waiting until I can attack it seriously in February.

As far as getting a watch goes: get one with a countdown and set it for four hours at the half-past when you're due to wake up. Then you don't have to remember to set it. Carry another one to remind you to go to sleep if you have to: two countdown watches beat twelve alarms.

i think this project is gonna culminate in a 5 day drunk towards the end of december, so i'll stick to what you guys are doing on the trip, but it seems a pretty good system and i might consider starting it again before school starts up. i only began now and didn't wait till feb. like dom because... well.... because i was bored.
of course, adding another five waking hours to your day doesn't really do much for boredom, as it turns out, but i find things to do.

got a job yet, vinyl junkie? yeah, i'm gonna redownload it from their site for like the third or fourth time. as the nights wear on i think i'm going to start recording three and a half hour tracks of feedback thru my headphones.

You calculated the odds of this succeeding versus the odds you were doing something incredibly stupid, and, uh, went ahead anyway?

all plans culminating in a five day drunk have a valid reason to be executed.

The OED has drunk as a noun (other than the usual, 'drunken person') - it's listed as colloq. and quite far down the list (it's like, 2, B, 1), but lists usage as going back as far as a W. Smith in 1779.

Cambridge doesn't list it, but their dictionary sux0rz.

Webster, if that's at all different from Merriam-Webster, doesn't seem to have it.

Merriam-Webster have it as 3, 1, even before the meaning 'drunkard'.

JJ, Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man: "I was out last night on a yellow drunk with Horan and Goggins"

and, finally, to prove how utterly stupid dictionary.com is: their only mention of it is from a medical dictionary.
